The Aluniș Prehistoric Settlements (part of the larger rupestral or rock-cut complex in the Buzău Mountains, within the Ținutul Buzăului UNESCO Global Geopark) represent one of Romania's most intriguing historical and spiritual sites. Located in the village of Aluniș (Colți commune, Buzău County), this ensemble features ancient rock-hewn dwellings, monastic cells, and a remarkable cave church dating back over 700 years (mentioned as early as 1274), still in use today and dedicated to the Beheading of St. John the Baptist.
